As many as 27 journalists were killed in the would while defeneding the
press freedom during the year 2000. It was disclosed in a press release
issued by Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA). Altough this
statistics is the lower during last 10 years, the increase in kidnapping is
very alarming, said the press release. In 25 countries, 73 journalists
behind the bars. However, no complaint was recieved of any journalist being
killed in America, Canada, Japan, France, or Western Europe. In Pakistan,
one journalist attached with a Lahore-based English Newspaper was
reportedly killed in custody of the Rawalpindi police.
Formed in 1979, Pakistan's First Internationally recognized Journalists organization Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) and former member of International Federation of Journalists "There can be no press freedom if journalists exist in the conditions of Corruption ,Proverty or Fear."
