Journalists in Prisons to Get PFJA Support, Says Iqbal Yousufi

The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has announced plans to collect the bio-data of journalists imprisoned in various jails across the country and to fight their legal cases.

According to PFJA, the association has already contacted the home secretaries of all four provinces in this connection.

PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi revealed that he had recently been approached by two journalists currently imprisoned. He said that one of them had been falsely implicated in a case allegedly at the behest of a former Chief Minister of Punjab. Yousufi added that the journalist’s valuables, taken at the time of his arrest, were unlawfully appropriated by the police.

In his statement, Yousufi further shared that Shamshad Chaudhary has been granted ‘B’ class facilities in jail due to the association’s efforts. He also announced that PFJA would soon establish a free legal aid committee for journalists.
