LAHORE: The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) Wednesday hailed the posting of Kamran Lashari as the Punjab information secretary. In a press release, the Association said Lashari always took interest in journalists' problems. PFJA President Iqbal Yousafi said Lashari was an active and effective officer.

اجلاس میں بھارت ، سری لنکا، پاکستان، بنگلہ دیش سمیت علاقے کے تمام ممالک کی تنظیموں کے 21 نمائندوں نے شرکت کی۔ نمائندوں نے اختلافات " علاقے میں انسانی حقوق اور پریس کی آزادی پر اپنے اپنے ممالک کی رپورٹیں دیں ۔ نیپال اور پاکستان کے نمائندوں نے بھارت کی جانب سے بعض امور میں مداخلت کا الزام لگایا۔ پاکستانی مندوب اور پی ایف جے اے کے صدر اقبال یوسفی نے اپنی تقریر میں بھارت پر الزام عائد کیا کہ وہ پاکستانی صحافیوں کو ویزا دینے کے بعد اپنے ملک میں ہراساں کرتا ہے اور ان کے لئے انتظامیہ اور ایجنسیاں طرح طرح کی مشکلات پیدا کرتی ہیں۔ انہوں نے گذشتہ سال پاکستانی ماہوار رسالے کے ایڈیٹر محمد اظہر مسعود کی بھارت میں گرفتار کر لینے اور ان کو تشدد کا نشانہ بنانے کے افسوسناک واقعہ کی مثال دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ وہ صحافی ابھی تک لاپتہ ہے۔ مسٹر یو سفی نے کہا جبکہ پاکستان میں بھارت سے آئے ہوئے کسی بھی صحافی کو تشدد کا نشانہ بنانا تو درکنار اس کو کسی نے پو چھا تک نہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ کوئی صحافی بھارتی سفارتخانے کو مشکوک دکھائی دیتا ہے تو ان کو ویزا ہی جاری نہ کیا جائے۔ اس طرح ویزا جاری کر کے شکار کی طرح جال میں پھنسانا بدترین سفارتی غنڈہ گردی ہے۔ اقبال یوسفی کے اس احتجاج پے اجلاس میں شریک بھارت کے چھ نمائندوں نے اس مسلے پر اپنی حکومت سے بات کرنے کی یقین دہانی کرائی۔ مسٹر اقبال یو سفی کے اس مطالبے کی سارک ممالک کے تمام نمائندوں نے بھرپور حمایت کی۔ سارک ممالک کی صحافی تنظیموں کے نمائندوں کا اجلاس کولمبو میں پانچ دن جاری رہا۔ اجلاس میں صحافیوں کی بین الاقوامی تنظیم انٹرنیشنل فیڈریشن آف جرنمٹس کے جنرل سیکرٹری مسٹر ایڈن وائٹ ، سنگاپور کی تنظیم اور ایف ای ایس کے نمائندوں نے بھی شرکت کی۔ اجلاس کے دوران انسانی حقوق ، علاقائی مسائل اور صحافت پر مقامی حالات کے اثرات پر سری لنکا کے معروف دانشوروں نے خصوصی لیکچرز بھی دیئے۔
Lahore – The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) staged a protest rally against the brutal killing of Hayatullah Khan, a journalist from North Waziristan Agency.
The protesters, led by PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi, appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the incident. Chanting slogans against the government, they demanded that the administration immediately arrest the kidnappers and killers of the tribal journalist.

Nov 3: The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has strongly condemned the illegal punishment inflicted upon journalist Mehmood, terming it an attempt to harass him.
PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi described the act in South Waziristan as criminal and blamed the political agent for colluding with a former minister and a notorious smuggler allegedly involved in a heroin case.
Mr. Yousufi said he had also sent telegrams to the President and Prime Minister, urging them to take notice of the serious misconduct of the political agent and to ensure his dismissal for targeting a dutiful journalist.
The Advisor to the Chief Minister for Anti-Corruption has nominated several freelance journalists as members of the Anti-Corruption Committee.
Those nominated include Naeem Qureshi, Khalid Pervaiz Malik (Sheikhupura), Mazhar Ali Adeeb (Lahore), Kamal Rizvi (Rawalpindi/Islamabad), Afsar Khan (Multan), and Kaukab Khan Zaar (Lahore).

Alas... Iqbal Yousufi

It was the night between the 18th and 19th of January when I woke up to the cries of women. Startled, I sat up. Someone told me, “Iqbal has passed away.”
That news shattered me completely. Although death is an undeniable reality of life, I could hardly believe it. He seemed perfectly fine—healthy and active—and had just crossed the age of sixty.
A little later, when I saw his lifeless body—covered in blood—I stood there speechless and motionless. Many doubts arose in my mind: could it be some other tragedy? But soon someone conveyed the doctor’s words—that Iqbal had been suffering from a stomach ulcer, which had suddenly ruptured and caused his death.
Iqbal had a habit of concealing his ailments, a family trait we seem to have inherited from our ancestors. From the preparations for his funeral to his burial, all stages passed before my eyes while I remained in a state of shock.

His sudden departure deeply grieved me and the entire family. Every message of condolence from friends and relatives reopened the wound.
He was the dearest of all to our parents and to the whole family. Among his friends, he was immensely popular—always concerned about his colleagues from his student days and his fellow journalists. He cared little for his own problems but was restless to solve the problems of others.
Shakil Adilzada, editor of Sab Rang, had been his classmate at Urdu College. Whenever Sab Rang failed to publish for months, Iqbal would become anxious and continuously call Shakil, pestering him out of affection.
If any journalist faced a problem, Iqbal would not rest until it was resolved. He spent most of his earnings on helping others. Many journalists were able to secure plots or houses through his tireless efforts—yet he himself lived in a rented home until his last day.
Recently, in an article published in Nawa-i-Waqt, he had offered, on behalf of the Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA), to take full responsibility for supporting the family of a martyred journalist from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Iqbal personally bore the expenses of PFJA’s activities. His compassion was not limited to his colleagues; whenever he heard of human suffering anywhere, he became deeply distressed and took every possible step to help.
For the stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh and for the victims of the Kashmir earthquake, Iqbal actively raised donations for Nawa-i-Waqt’s relief fund.
Iqbal Yousufi was my brother — our beloved one.
But none of us could truly understand the pain he carried within. Not even his closest companions, with whom he spent most of his time. He always appeared cheerful and full of life among them.
Yet, when the time of his departure came, only a few people were around him. Though hundreds accompanied him to his final resting place, those who stood nearest were the simple, ordinary people—his neighbors—whose problems he used to solve beyond his professional responsibilities.
Everyone was weeping, praising his kindness and mourning the loss of a man who lived for others.

The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has extended a warm commendation on the inauguration of Waqt TV, describing the new channel as a meaningful contribution to strengthening Pakistan’s ideological narrative within the electronic media sector. The association noted that the arrival of a serious, policy-oriented news channel had long been anticipated by viewers seeking depth, clarity, and national focus in broadcast journalism.
In a statement released on Monday, PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi congratulated Majid Nizami, Chairman of the Nawa-i-Waqt Group, for taking this significant step. He highlighted that the channel’s foundation reflects the same unwavering commitment to principles, national consciousness, and editorial integrity for which the Nawa-i-Waqt Group has long been recognized.
Yousufi emphasized that Waqt TV is positioned to meet the expectations of audiences from various walks of life, particularly those who look toward media outlets that uphold values aligned with Pakistan’s ideological framework. He expressed confidence that the new channel would quickly establish itself as a credible platform for serious journalism and informed public discourse.
As many as 27 journalists lost their lives around the world in 2000 while defending press freedom, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA). Although the figure is comparatively lower than the totals recorded over the past decade, the sharp rise in abductions has become a serious cause for concern, the statement added.
The PFJA report noted that 73 journalists were imprisoned across 25 countries during the same year. Encouragingly, no cases of journalists being killed were reported from the United States, Canada, Japan, France, or Western Europe.
However, in Pakistan, the press release expressed deep concern over the reported custodial death of a journalist associated with a Lahore-based English newspaper, allegedly while in the custody of Rawalpindi police.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has called for the relocation of the coffin of renowned journalist Z.A. Suleri to Mazar-e-Quaid-i-Azam.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi highlighted Suleri’s close association with Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his lifelong contributions to Pakistan and journalism. He noted that Suleri was originally buried as a matter of trust, and emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to arrange for his burial alongside the Founder of the Nation.
Iqbal Yousufi expressed hope that the arrangements for the reburial would be finalized by August 14.

صوبائی وزیر ٹرانسپورٹ عرفان احمد ڈاھا نے کہا کہ مرحوم مسلم لیگ کے مخلص، محنتی اور باوقار کارکن تھے۔ ان کی وفات سے جماعت ایک ذہین، شریف اور باصلاحیت رکن سے محروم ہوگئی ہے۔
جماعت اسلامی کے امیر قاضی حسین احمد اور نائب امیر لیاقت بلوچ نے مرحوم کی وفات کو قومی سانحہ قرار دیا۔ ان کے مطابق زیڈ اے سلہری نے تحریکِ پاکستان میں اہم کردار ادا کیا، آزادیٔ صحافت کے لیے سرگرم رہے اور ہمیشہ نظریۂ پاکستان اور دو قومی نظریے کا دفاع کیا۔
مرکزی جماعت اہلِ حدیث پاکستان کے سربراہ علامہ زبیر احمد ظہیر نے کہا کہ مرحوم نے پوری زندگی اسلام اور پاکستان کے لیے وقف کیے رکھی۔ ان کی وفات سے صحافت کا ایک اہم باب بند ہوا، مگر ان کی تحریریں آنے والی نسلوں کے لیے رہنمائی کا ذریعہ رہیں گی۔
مجلسِ کارکنانِ تحریکِ پاکستان کے اجلاس، جس کی صدارت اکرم علی خان نے کی، میں بھی مرحوم کو خراجِ عقیدت پیش کیا گیا۔ اجلاس میں علی محتشم، بریگیڈیئر (ر) ظفر اقبال چوہدری، رانا صفدر جنگ، کرنل (ر) جمشید احمد خان ترین، ڈاکٹر اقبال سرہندی، چوہدری عبدالرشید سمیت دیگر شخصیات نے شرکت کی۔
پاکستان فری لانْس جرنلسٹس ایسوسی ایشن نے بھی گہرے دکھ اور افسوس کا اظہار کیا۔ اجلاس میں علامہ انور ظہوری، اقبال یوسفی، پروفیسر مظہر علی ادیب، کمال رضوی، نعیم قریشی، ابراہیم طاہر، تنویر زبیری اور شوکت اللہ نے مرحوم کی خدمات کو خراجِ تحسین پیش کیا اور ایصالِ ثواب کی دعا کی۔
ایک الگ تعزیتی بیان میں گورنر شاہد حامد نے دوبارہ مرحوم کی صحافتی خدمات کو سراہتے ہوئے کہا کہ وہ ایک ممتاز صحافی تھے جنہوں نے صحافت میں ہمیشہ معیار اور دیانت کو ترجیح دی۔
صوبائی وزیر ٹرانسپورٹ عرفان احمد خان داھا اور چیئرمین ٹاسک فورس برائے ضروری اشیاء ایس۔اے۔ حمید نے بھی گہرے رنج و غم کا اظہار کیا اور کہا کہ مرحوم تحریکِ پاکستان کے سرگرم کارکن تھے جن کی قومی خدمات ہمیشہ یاد رکھی جائیں گی۔
پاکستان ایڈورٹائزنگ ایسوسی ایشن کے چیئرمین ایس۔اے۔ ہاشمی نے اپنے بیان میں کہا کہ زیڈ اے سلہری نے اپنی پوری زندگی ملک و قوم کی خدمت میں گزاری۔ انہوں نے مرحوم کے اہلِ خانہ سے اظہارِ تعزیت کیا اور اللہ تعالیٰ سے ان کے لیے صبر اور حوصلے کی دعا کی۔

Prominent political leaders, distinguished scholars, and members of the media community expressed profound grief over the passing of veteran journalist Z.A. Suleri. Prayers were offered for the departed soul, asking Allah Almighty to grant him eternal peace and to give strength to his family in bearing this irreparable loss.
Governor Shahid Hamid, while condoling Suleri’s death, said that he rendered invaluable services in the field of journalism and earned distinction in every editorial capacity he served. He noted that Suleri’s professional dedication and commitment to responsible journalism would be remembered for a long time.
Punjab Transport Minister Irfan Ahmad Daha stated that the deceased was a devoted worker of the Muslim League. He said the party had lost a gentle, intelligent, and industrious member whose contribution would remain unforgettable.
Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad and Naib Amir Liaqat Baloch described Suleri’s passing as a national tragedy. They highlighted the vital role he played during the Pakistan Movement, his unwavering support for press freedom, and his commitment to high-quality journalism. They added that he was a patriotic Pakistani who firmly upheld Pakistan Ideology and the two-nation theory.
Chief of Markazi Jamaat Ahle Hadith Pakistan Allama Zubair Ahmad Zaheer said that Suleri devoted his entire life to Islam and Pakistan. He remarked that although his death closed an important chapter in national journalism, his writings would continue to guide and inspire generations.
A meeting of Majlise Karkunani Tehrik Pakistan, chaired by Akram Ali Khan, also offered condolences. Those present included Ali Muhtashim, Brig (retd) Zafar Iqbal Chaudhary, Rana Safdar Jang, Col (retd) Jamshed Ahmad Khan Tareen, Dr Iqbal Sarhindi, Ch Abdur Rasheed, and numerous others who paid tribute to Suleri’s services.
The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Members including Allama Anwar Zahoori, Iqbal Yousufi, Prof Mazhar Ali Adeeb, Kamal Rizvi, Naeem Qureshi, Ibrahim Tahir, Tanveer Zuberi, and Shaukat Ullah offered prayers and acknowledged his remarkable contribution to national journalism.
In a separate condolence message, Governor Shahid Hamid once again praised Suleri’s meritorious services and prayed for the departed soul.
Punjab Minister for Transport Irfan Ahmad Khan Daha and Chairman Task Force Punjab for Essential Items S.A. Hameed also expressed their grief. They emphasized that Suleri was not only a respected journalist but also an active worker of the Pakistan Movement whose service to the nation would be remembered for years to come.
The Pakistan Advertising Association (PAA), through its Chairman S.H. Hashmi, expressed heartfelt condolences. Hashmi noted that Suleri was an active participant in the Pakistan Movement and worked throughout his life for the betterment of the nation. The association prayed for the bereaved family and asked Allah to grant them courage and patience.

A special meeting of journalists’ associations from SAARC countries was held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. The host organization was the Sri Lanka Union of Journalists. The opening ceremony was inaugurated by the President of Sri Lanka, while the second session was opened by the Minister of Information of Sri Lanka.
Representatives from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other countries of the region participated — a total of 21 delegates attended the event. The participants presented reports on the state of human rights and press freedom in their respective countries and discussed regional differences affecting media freedom.
The delegates from Nepal and Pakistan accused India of interfering in certain internal matters. The Pakistani delegate and President of the Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA), Iqbal Yousufi, in his address, charged that India harasses Pakistani journalists after issuing them visas, creating difficulties for them through its administration and intelligence agencies.
Citing the arrest and torture of Mohammad Azhar Masood, editor of a Pakistani monthly magazine, who was detained in India the previous year and has been missing ever since, Mr. Yousufi strongly condemned the incident.
He added that no Indian journalist visiting Pakistan has ever been harassed or even questioned by Pakistani authorities. Mr. Yousufi said that if the Indian Embassy finds any journalist suspicious, it should simply refuse to issue a visa, instead of trapping journalists like prey, calling such behavior the worst form of diplomatic thuggery.
In response to Mr. Yousufi’s protest, six Indian delegates present at the meeting assured him they would raise the matter with their government. His demand received full support from representatives of all SAARC countries.
The five-day conference in Colombo was also attended by Aidan White, General Secretary of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), along with representatives from Singapore’s journalists’ organization and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).
During the sessions, leading Sri Lankan intellectuals delivered special lectures on human rights, regional challenges, and the impact of local conditions on journalism.
